Tableau parameters - filtering data

Updated: May 22, 2021

Parameters is a workbook variable such as a number, date or string that can replace a constant value in a calculation, reference line, histogram bins or filter.

In this video, am going to show you how to use a parameter to filter data.

When creating a filter to show the top N products by Sales, the ‘N’ value is fixed (constant) and therefore can’t be modifying in a dynamic way that suites end user’s needs. In such cases, you can use a parameter to replace the constant value ‘N’ – updating the filter to show the top ‘N+1’, ‘N+2’…… ‘N+k’ products.
