Tableau drill down and hierarchies

A hierarchy is the arrangement of items in which items are represented as being ‘above’, ‘below’ or ‘at the same level as’ one another. When you connect to a data source, Tableau automatically separates the date field into hierarchies allowing users easily drill down into a viz.

Tableau also allows users to create own custom hierarchies, for example you can create a custom hierarchy which allows users drill down between the levels of Region, State and city as shown in this video.
