Quick LODs – New in Tableau 2021.1

The Tableau 2021.1 release introduced several features to the market which include.

Einstein Discovery - an intuitive prediction and recommendation feature geared to bring prediction capabilities in dashboards - empowering businesses explore trends and patterns in data without writing a single code.

Quick LOD – a new way of creating LOD calculations by simply dragging a measure field into a dimension field.

A new unified notification experience – a newly designed notification center within the Tableau server or Tableau online which consolidates all important changes across the entire organization in one place for easy management.

Therefore, in this brief article, I am going to show you how to use the quick LOD introduced in Tableau 2021.1.

Quick LOD – Option1

One of the easiest ways to create an LOD calculation in Tableau 2021.1 onward is as follows.

  • While holding down the CTRL key, drag the measure field you would like to use onto a dimension field.

  • Tableau will create a new measure field – in this format Measure field name (Dimension field name)

  • If you need to revise the LOD calculation you can edit the newly created field.

Note: By default, Tableau creates a FIXED LOD calculation, however you can edit this calculation to create an INCLUDE or EXCLUDE LOD calculation.

The second way you can create an LOD calculation is by highlighting the measure field and dimension field you would like to use to create the calculation.

Then create >> LOD calculation….

Just like in the first option, you can edit the default FIXED LOD calculation to create an INCLUDE or EXCLUDE LOD calculation or even declare more dimensions.
