Overview
A reset filters button is a custom-built interactive element designed to restore all filters on a dashboard to their original or default state with a single click. This feature is particularly valuable in dashboards that offer users multiple filtering options - such as dropdowns, sliders, or multi-select lists - allowing them to explore data dynamically. Over time, as users apply various filters, the dashboard view can become highly segmented or narrowed. The reset filters button provides a quick and intuitive way to clear those selections and return to the baseline view of the data, improving usability and analytical flow.
Step-by-Step Guide
To add a reset filters button in Tableau, first create your dashboard and add filters as shown below.

Create a reset button.
On a new worksheet, create a reset button by dragging the calculation “Reset” to the text shelf as shown below.
Note the above calculation contains a text label “Reset Filters”.

Add the reset button to the dashboard (in this case I have added it to the right of my filters).

Next, add an action filter and configure as follows.

(Note, in the above view I have set the source sheet as “Reset filters” targeting all other worksheets in the dashboard. Under filters I have selected the Source and Target fields as the fields used in my filters namely: Region, State, Category, Sub-Category, Segment and Ship Mode)
Executing the above, adds a reset button to the dashboard – meaning you can clear your filter selections by just selecting the reset button.
See below.

Conclusion
Resetting filters in Tableau is a powerful technique that greatly enhances user experience by allowing quick restoration of default views without manual adjustment of each filter. By implementing a reset filters button, you provide dashboard users with intuitive control to explore data dynamically while maintaining ease of navigation and clarity. Whether using actions, parameter controls, or Tableau extensions, adding this feature supports efficient analysis and makes dashboards more interactive and user-friendly. Mastering this capability is essential for creating polished, professional Tableau reports that effectively meet user needs.
