Tableau layout containers

Tableau layout containers are dashboard objects which allow developers organize vizzes in a dashboard, hence optimizing user-dashboard interactions.

A good example of Tableau layout container is visible in the dashboard below.

For instance, the dashboard below on HDX (usage) summary statistics has ten (10) layout containers, 8 highlighted in red and containing metrics and other additional information, 1 highlighted in green and containing the title of the dashboard, and an overall layout highlighted in yellow and containing all layout containers.

We add layout containers using the horizontal, vertical, and blank containers under objects on your dashboard interface.

Tableau layout containers can be added in tiled or floating mode.

Adding layout containers in tiled mode

(To add layout containers in tiled mode requires use of a blank container when partitioning another container). See gif below.

Adding layout containers in floating mode

Adding layout containers in floating mode is simple as dragging either horizontal or vertical containers to view and resizing them to fit. See gif below.

Once your layout containers are ready, you can drag worksheets, images, and texts to their respective containers to create your dashboard.
