Moving headers to the top of the view in Tableau

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

By default, when you create views in Tableau, headers are always at the bottom of the view. Sometimes you might be interested in displaying these headers at the top instead of having them at the bottom of the view.

How can you do that?

To demonstrate this, lets first create a view using sample-superstore data by.

  • Drag product segment to the columns.

  • Drag Sales to the rows.

  • Choose bar under marks card.

(As you can see in the above view, the headers are at the bottom of the view – you can move them to the top of the view by),

  • Go to the Analysis menu

  • Under Table Layout choose Advanced…

On the pop-up menu,

Uncheck ‘Show innermost level at bottom of view when there is a vertical axis’.

See the resulting view.
