How to hide/unhide columns in Tableau

Hiding columns can be helpful in situations where a column must be part of a table to maintain row level specificity but is undesirable to be shown or to make your table easily manageable/interpretable by hiding the unrequired columns.

To hide a column simply right click on the column and select Hide.

Note, you can show any hidden column by right clicking any of the visible columns and choose ‘Show hidden data’.

Alternatively, you can go to the analysis menu and select ‘Reveal Hidden Data’.

Same technique applies when you need to hide certain fields in the data pane or data source page.

Simply right click on the field and select ‘Hide’.

Note, you can quickly hide all the unused fields by selecting ‘Hide All Unused Fields’ on the drop-down menu at the top right corner of the data pane.

To make the hidden fields visible on the data pane, go to the drop-down menu on the top right corner of the data pane and select ‘Show Hidden Fields’.

Note, the hidden fields are shown in grey color. To unhide the hidden fields, select each one of them, right-click on one of the selected fields and choose unhide.

Note: The hidden fields are now ready to be used in your visualizations.
